Waterloo cost the Allied forces around 15,000 dead and wounded, and the Prussians some 7000. Napoleon lost 25,000 dead and injured. 8000 of his troops were taken prisoner.

These figures MAY include the Battles of Quatre Bras which was fought a few days earlier. They do NOT include looses from the Battle of Ligny or Marshal Grouchy's unsuccessful chase of the Prussians following Ligny.

Had Marshal Ney been more forward at Quatre Bras Napoleon would have been able to invest Waterloo better prior to the battle. Had Grouchy accomplished the mission HE had been given (to prevent the Prussians from linking back up with Wellington) the Prussians would not have reinforced the English at the critical moment when the Young Guards failed in their assault.

47,000 casualties on both sides; dead and wounded
Wellington; 15,000 (English, Dutch, Belgian)
Blucher; 7,000 (Prussian)
Napoleon; 25,000 (French, and some Polish)
