Other than to make sure the poor kids dont get their feelings hurt?

Wouldn't you think that the poor kids might see that they should probably succeed and do well, instead of soceity making special rules everyone has to follow just for them.

And for those of you who are going to acuse me of being a spolied rich brat. I am far from it, there was a point when my mother worked 3 jobs and I now pay my own way in life as I feel everyone should

In Australia, uniforms are compulsory right up until years 11 & 12 (in some states) and of course, all the way through private schools. I went to both public and private schools and I think uniforms are appropriate.
Obviously it does remove the social stigma for poorer kids and I don't see how you can so easily overlook this. Far more than "hurting their feelings' it can make school an intensely unhappy experience and a decent education should be free for all with all children receiving the opportunities as well as the right to a happy and peaceful school environment.
Wearing normal clothes is not going to act an incentive to poorer kids anyway.

sway_26 here in Ireland and in the UK all school uniforms are compulsory. The Idea of the school uniforms are one:
You can't tell the different from the rich from the poor
It doesn't put pressue on parents to buy the latest trends
I know its not complusory in the USA. But haven't worn a uniform since the age of four till I was eighteen, the good aspect is students don't have peer pressue out doing one another on the latest fashion trend. Like I said all schools regardless of been private or public schools here must wear uniforms. It law set down by the Department of Education here.

As far as i know uniforms are for private schools not public schools were the "poor" kids go. I was in private schools and i loved having a uniform not only does it save time but it makes students focus on education not clothes or brands etc. besides i think all schools should have uniforms have you seen what teens wear to school nowadays?

It is suppose to keep everyone the same.
Attention is focused on the work and not what a person wears.
Seems fair in that aspect but in reality it does not work that way.
