Any undesired thought can be thrown out with practice. Unlike a negative memory of an event, something we see in passing (like in a movie) isn't permanent.
Make a list of things you can do to distract yourself when you feel plagued by the thought of something you don't like. Say outloud, "Stop!", reach for that list and get to doing the things on the list to distract yourself. You may have to say "Stop!" a few times or even accompany it with clapping your hands, but doing something physical and so different from the thought itself helps to dispel the undesired thought.
If the thought is disturbing your dreams, consider watching a favorite comedy before going to bed.
Because the thought isn't permanent, it will go away in time on its own. In the meantime, take care of yourself -- by not watching things like that again. No successful, happy person ever attributed their happiness and success to horrible images they'd seen.

You alone control what enters into your head as a thought. If you don’t believe this, just answer this question, “ If you don’t control your thoughts who does?”
You have the power to think whatever you choose to let into your head If something just “pops” into your head you choose to put it there, though you may not know why, you still have the power to make it go away.
Think something else. Your thoughts are your own, uniquely yours to keep, change, share, and/or contemplate, your choice.

keep yourself busy for a while and if it does come back immediately expel it from your mind by thinking of other things. eventually, it will only come back if your answering a quesiton like this

nurish your mind with positive things instead of junk. works for me. Used to be filled with horor now I'm filled with love.
