Longhorn steers are plentiful here in TX.

Why does Texas A&M have a collie as their mascot? That, I think, is a more interesting question.

These teams are referred to as the Texas Longhorns, taking their name from the Longhorn cattle that were an important part of the development of Texas, and are now the official "large animal" of the State of Texas.

A team can't possibly suck if they made it to the National Championship game. Oklahoma is a great team, they played better than the Longhorns all season.

They are named after a breed of cattle called long horns because they have extremely long horns. That is really a no brainer.
