The points system is throwing me off. I grab a great question, start getting into my answer as if they only asked me, and then the points sign says Congrats for a few points. This can be a good thing for me to practice while I am on sabbatical forever now. I can keep my hand in without risking life and death!! But how do I calm my competitiveness down? I am 100% serious-------ALL the time!! Is that why I love this, because it has the opportunity to be fun too? Sometimes I die laughing over someone's 3 word answer or their whole witty speech!! There are some clever people here (my glass is suddenly half full) and I want to let go and experience this different form of human interaction!! How do I forget those damn points and curb my enthusiasm? No Abuse Please. Nor do I need a report about self-esteem. I would cut my time here out completely and clean the house if I wanted to feel bad. Many Thanks. Appreciate it. (Every time)

I SHOULD HAVE MADE IT CLEAR THAT I AM COMPETING WITH MYSELF!! IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE THAT, CHECK OUT THE LEADERSHIP BOARD!! I DON'T ASPIRE TO THAT DEGREE OF ABSORBTION, AT LEAST NOT YET!! OH NO!!!!!!

Whew...I'm not alone! ;) Here's a thought - I switched to Sports/Football and found that my needs are met there vs just helping others with their needs. What area can you go answer points outside of your 'norm' that you would enjoy?

I was excited to hit Level 2, then realised that Level 3 was an even bigger hurdle - quite addicting. For me, the points are a sign that people are getting something from what I offer. If I didn't have points, I would realize that this 'forum' isn't for me. My motivation, like yours, is to help people. Points are the 'attaboys' and 'thanks'.

I should also say that by points, I am looking at Best Answer % and Thumbs Up. I too laugh at the short, impulsive and even rude answers.

It is definately a different forum and a new experience.

BTW, cleaning the house is not all bad either...;) It's a darn good thing there's no 'DING' or we'd all be crazy. 'Hey honey, do you want to just go out....DING!....flop, bang, crash...'aha, more points!'

WHOA! What and where is a leader board? Funny that you say you are competing against yourself (which I assumed) and yet your are on a leader board? I didn't realize that there was a group competitive aspect to this forum. :)

I'm new here and when I find a question that I want to answer, either because it intrigues me, have personal knowledge of a good answer (at least to me) or if I just feel like adding my two cents, I enter an answer. Sometimes, I add a website or a source to justify my answer or clarify so my answer isn't too long.
Just go with your gut. I don't look at this as competitive, I look at it as a fun way to help others. I'm not into the points thing maybe since I'm new and really haven't looked at how it works. I belong to other forums and many of them are there to share ideas, help others or, as you did, ask a question as see what others might share with you.
Just have fun!!!

G.I.Joe used to say, "knowing is half the battle." At least you've identified the problem. I know what you mean about the answers. I try to answer each question with great care, but there are some questions that are so off the wall that I must respond with scorn or sarcasm. But you have more points than me, so off I must go.

I struggled with this for quite some time. I just keep reminding myself that the race is long, and in the end it is only with myself.
