Porcão
801 Brickell Bay Dr.
Miami, Florida 33131 USA
Neighborhood: Miami/Brickell Key
Phone Number: 305-373-2777
Dress Code: Business casual
Hours of Operation: Lunch & Dinner daily
Atmosphere: Kid Friendly. Romantic. View.
Average Price or Price Range*: $$$ (under $50).
Cuisine: Brazilian.
Payment: Credit Cards Accepted.
Description: This downtown churrascaria is a carnival for carnivores, yet starkly different from other steakhouses. It goes by the format called rodizio, which is Brazil's joyous, generous, fixed-price (here $35) approach to all-you-can-eat (especially meat) dining. That includes a huge buffet offering the usual salad bar items along with delicacies like pickled quail eggs. Waiters roam the room lugging big, swordlike skewers laden with meats that have been wood-fire barbecued Brazilian-style. If the little disc that sits by your plate is turned Yes side up, the waiters will start carving and heaping the meats on your plate until you stop them. Beware---if you should get up, say, to help yourself to the salad bar, forgetting to flip your disc to No, you're likely to return to find a crowd of men at your table diligently carving flank steak, filet mignon, liver, sausage, chicken, chicken hearts, lamb, and pork onto your plate. Desserts are extra, but go ahead and try the flan---they don't call it Porcão (pig) for nothing.

Provence
1001 S. Miami Ave.
Miami, Florida 33130 USA
Cross Street: Brickell Ave.
Neighborhood: Miami/Downtown
Phone Number: 305-373-1940
Dress Code: Business casual
Hours of Operation: Lunch Mon.-Fri., Dinner nightly
Atmosphere: Romantic.
Average Price or Price Range*: $$ (under $35).
Cuisine: French.
Payment: Credit Cards Accepted.
Description: In a pretty Brickell Village house set beneath ancient oaks, under which you may dine, the charming southern French Cormouls brothers are dedicated to Provençal cooking and atmosphere. Dine outside in the shade of the trees. Start with pâté or a superb orange-scented smoked duck salad. Lightened Provençal dishes are featured here, although some of the better ones are borrowed from the Italian seaside. Among the Italianesque fare is the pasta with spiced tomato concassé and fruits de mer, a deluxe assortment of delicate seafood. Back to France for delicate ice cream profiteroles. Hardy French red wines complete the picture.

A Fish Called Avalon
700 Ocean Dr.
Miami Beach, Florida 33139 USA
Cross Street: Seventh St.
Neighborhood: Miami Beach/South Beach
Phone Number: 305-532-1727
Dress Code: Casual
Hours of Operation: Lunch & Dinner daily
Atmosphere: Kid Friendly. Romantic. View.
Average Price or Price Range*: $$$ (under $50).
Cuisine: Seafood.
Payment: Credit Cards Accepted.
Description: The historic Avalon Hotel hasn't changed much with Miami Beach's architectural resurrection. Tiny improvements in décor and design give this tourist restaurant only a slightly updated feeling, but the tiered dining patio and indoor restaurant are inviting and unassuming. The strictly seafood menu shares in that unpretentious approach, embracing fusion-style contemporary preparations and presentations, yet never compromising the use of quality local ingredients. Appetizer Bang Bang shrimp with fresh mint, cucumber slaw and peanut dipping sauce is a tasty, Thai-inspired signature dish. Trendy local seafood dishes such as Caribbean snapper served with grilled plantains and blackened grouper with papaya relish are menu mainstays. Stone crabs, when in season, are featured as well, although at inflated prices, and they are no better than those found elsewhere in town at a fraction of the price. Spicy seafood dishes are complemented by cooling sorbets for dessert, such as ginger-pear or lemon-lime. The quaint Avalon bar is an appealing spot for pre-dinner cocktails or an after-sun cooling-off spot. The wine list is limited, featuring mostly commercial vintages, but a few offbeat selections appeal to the more discriminating connoisseur.

Touch
910 Lincoln Rd.
Miami Beach, Florida 33139 USA
Cross Street: Jefferson Ave.
Neighborhood: Miami Beach/South Beach
Phone Number: 305-532-8003
Dress Code: Casual dressy
Hours of Operation: Dinner nightly
Average Price or Price Range*: $$$ (under $50).
Cuisine: Contemporary.
Payment: Credit Cards Accepted.
Description: Touch really is a fun place, provided gastronomy is not your mission. The most hyped restaurant on the beach for the year 2000, this massive theme restaurant/supper club looks more like a typical beach night club than a place to satisfy your hunger, but the highly contrived menu competes for top billing. Tall ultra-suede banquettes and the 12-foot palm trees planted atop the bar suggest that Touch is aimed at being a plush, exotic environment, but it's got more pomp and sustenance than substance. Touting simple fare, Chef Sean Brasel unsuccessfully throws every pricey ingredient imaginable into his dishes, and getting through the actual menu descriptions is exhausting. Some dishes are redeeming, as in the case of the sliced New York strip, humbly accompanied by wood-roasted fingerling potatoes and roasted chili jus. Also delightful is the South Beach napoleon of Key lime and puff pastry---subtly sweet and tart. But the majority of tirelessly un-simple fare promises nothing less than indigestion, made worse by the frenetic light show, pounding music, and astronomical tabs. Throw in flamboyant, yet inept, service, and the entire experience can be frustrating. Leave it to the Vegas-style showgirls to distract you from anything that might be ailing you. The trend nowadays in restaurants is that dining out ought to exemplify entertainment, in and of itself. Touch does just that. The massive bar that dominates the restaurant is the place to be right now in South Beach, offering the most heavenly ogling to be had anywhere for miles. So, slip into something skimpy, or black, and happen in. You might be disappointed by the food, but you certainly won't be bored. Kitchen closes at 1a.m. Last call is at 4 a.m.

Prime 112 and Nemo are great. I personally love China Grill - it's a bit more pricey but plates are designed for sharing. If you get one entree, you can definitely share it among 2 or 3 people with no problem. It's very dressy in these places.
