Hi,

First may I say good luck with your pregnancy!

I've only just given up smoking and the best tips are to try to change the things you would usually do. For example, if you have a particular thing you usually smoke while doing, find something else to do. I usually used to smoke while having a cup of coffee, so at those times I'll try to do some knitting, or play patience... anything that keeps my hands busy! Water is a great thing for suppressing the need for a cigarette too, and is also good for you during pregnancy.

One large incentive I found was to save up the money. Each time I would have bought a packet of cigarettes, I put the money into a piggy bank. Come the end of the month, you'll have a lovely large amount put away with which to buy baby items, and its SO rewarding to see all that cash to spend on something more worthwhile!

I once again wish you all the best for the future, and I'm sure you'll be able to quit with such a lovely reward of a baby to aim for =)

I have tried every method out there and honestly the only one that will work is doig it cold turkey. You cant be around anyone that smokes not at all or the smell will make you think about it and once you think about it you want it. Also you must have as little stress around you as possible. I know being pregnant isnt exactly stress free but think how good this is for your baby and picture your baby smilling in there and it will calm you down a bit. So if your married (like I was) Hopefully your husband/Boyfriend will lay off you for awhile not argue with you, basicly for three weeks what you say is gold.. no contridicting you. Also He cannot smoke around you even outside of the house for those three weeks. If he loves you he will do it. Or if your lucky like I was he didnt smoke.

GOOD LUCK!! you can do it if you follow this to a T

Try nicotine replacement theraphy i.e patch or gum etc.
When i found out i was pregnant i was on the patches to quit smoking to prepare my body for the baby - the nurse at my surgery where i was getting my prescription for the patches from told me that in 1 cigarette there are 4000 chemicals and that it was safer for the baby for me to use the patch. Sadly i miscarried at 9 weeks and turned back to the fags.
I've just quit again (it's been 2 weeks and 2 days) and hopefully plan to start for a family again soon x Good luck with everything - i hope that all will work out fine!!

I quit smoking around that time too. I had to change my lifestyle. Like I used to smoke while talking on the phone, so if the phone rang I'd grab a pen and start drawing on a pad while I'm talking. I used to smoke in the car, so I'd chew gum or sip water. I also got terrible morning sickness-the smell of cigarettes made me throw up so that was a blessing in disguise. I also asked my friends to not smoke around me so I wouldn't get a craving. Best of luck to you! I've been smoke free for over 2 years now!

Best tip I have wouldn't be suitable in your situation.

Get drunk one night without smoking (Its actually really hard as you really need a cigarette) next day when you wake up you need a cigarette but it doesn't seem so bad when you remember how you felt the night before.

Speak to your doctor about the suitability of nicotine replacement. They would probably prefer that to smoking fully.

i smoke an average of 15 cigs a day but gave up with both pregnancies. even though this is hard think of what it'll do to your baby inhaling all that smoke. quit now!

Quitter!

Make a bet with a friend you secretly despise,
there's no way you will want to hand them any cash.

Failing that ,wouldn't you do anything to protect your baby?
