I say selectively ignore them, if they do not have anything to do with what I do in life.
I do think I have more peace of mind by, for instance, following rules governing my uni work, and importantly do not drink drive.
There are other examples, but am having lapses of memory at this hour! Now, having convenient lapses of memory--that is the key to real peace of mind.

if you break the rules and have a conscience! you will always have the agony of kicking yourself for doing something wrong.
to have peace of mind Dont kick against the pricks, their tortures can be tormenting.
