Tornado siren? Pfft. Those things are almost always false alarms. Still, get to the basement or a small, interior room on the lowest level of your house if you don't have a basement, and stay away from windows. You could also get into a bathtub. The bathroom is one of the safer places to be since the plumbing helps hold the room together, and cause it's a small room. Don't cover yourself with a mattress because if the wind forces it against you you could pass out for lack of oxygen. And don't worry, the house-shredding tornadoes you see on TV are very rare. The vast majority are weak and short-lived.

Always make sure you have things ready ahead of time like a battery powered radio, a working flash light, can opener, canned food, and bottled water. Put these in the area you feel you would go to if such a thing happened. Then when the time comes go to a basement away from windows, if no basement find the center of the house and go in a closet cover yourself with pillows, blankets or whatever you can find to keep debre off of you. When a tornado strikes it blows from the inner part of the house out! It has to do with the pressure. So the inner part of the house is usually the safest place to be if there is no basement. If no closets in center of house, then go into the bath tub and cover up with pillows and blankets because of flying debre. Stay there until you know it is over.

Lord, don't I have expereince here. i lived in a single wide trailer back in Florida and one day I had laid out of work and was sleeping and when I heard those dang ole sirens going off. I thought it was just some sort of car alarm or something so I put a pillow over my head and went back to sleep. Wouldnt you know it a dang twister had set down and was headed right at the trailer park. All I can remember was the covers flying off the bed and stuff flying around the room. Next thing I knew I was sailing out through where the roof used to be but I landed on the roof of a car and really was not hurt except for some brusies. About ten trailers were smashed that day but I was the only person at home when it happened. God really hates trailers I reckon.

We live in a trailer and if a tornado siren went off I would probably drop dead of an anxiety attack or something before it hit. Being home alone is good... then my boys are safe somewhere else :-)

OK thanks, will have trouble going to sleep tonight haha.

Go to your basement, or to the doorway of an inside room in your house - away from glass.
