...but if there was a *white* club we'd be shot at our first gathering? Why can there be a Latino Chamber of Commerce and a Afican American Chamber of Commerce but no White Chamber of Commerce?? Why is there black history month but no WHITE history month? How can they justify the United ***** College Fund without an equalling helpful one for whites? All of these things are a direct form of racism against whites. Yet we're supposed to just sit back and take it. Well, with today being what it is I wanted to ask this question of Yahoo Answers in hopes of finding some truly meaningful answers.

To add, I'm not trying to come off negative at all. I just think if these types of things were not around then the races wouldnt continuously be seperated. Having all these types of segregation is a constant reminder that we really are not all equal. I live in a very diverse area where there is pretty much an equal amount of all races, yet those races all seem to *flock together* and form areas of such a race. Now, being white, if I say choose to stop and shop in an area that is largely black, then I recieve all the nasty stares and comments and rudeness...why? When I've dont nothing to these people other than being born white. Same thing goes for latino's. If I go into a largly latino area I hear them talkin crap in spanish about me, why? Because I have blue eyes? Fair skin? What is the purpose I ask? I give everyone a fair shake, honestly, I do. But its hard when I dont get the same respect from other races.

I actually DID attempt to make a club, in HS. The board wouldn't have it for fear of lawsuits. Although, my VP agreed that we should have one, as a way balancing. He was out-voted.

Personally I think youre right about there shouldnt be a Latino/African American/Asian, etc, etc, Chamber of Commerce etc. Its time to put all of that behind us now.
The reason why there isnt a WHITE history month is that early American history there were basically all white. In other words one could say every month is white history month.
Now back then there were black slaves, Native Americans, and perhaps a few others, but anything that could have been a momentus occassion were not written down or entirely omitted.
Granted there is a lot of politics going on but the trick is find something special about all of us no matter what our DNA mix is and join hands in celebrating our Great Experiment in Diversity. (Criminy, can you imagine not having the enjoyment of soul food, asian food, pizza, tacos, etc, etc?)
Keep in mind that racism is a type of fear - fear of being controlled by others but in harmoneous love, there is no fear.

You can't have a white club because its kinda a racist thing and a school wouldn't have that because Black and latino are cultures, but white is just a race.An Irish club is a different story though.White ppl have 10 other months. The United ***** college has been around a long time before blacks had an equal chance so y destroy history?Has a white person even tried registering at a black college beside there are colleges full of white ppl rather than a collge devoted only to white ppl. This whole question is stupid.

It's not racist for those clubs. When I was in college, there were Irish clubs, Jewish clubs, Polish Clubs, Greek clubs etc. No one complained. It was simply a gathering ground for people who are just like you. What would you know about being an ethnic or racial minority? Probably as much as I know about being white. You don't know what it's like, so some of the things I have encountered, you wouldn't even know how to react because it just doesn't happen to you. But others would and that's why colleges and high schools have these clubs. The clubs are open to everyone. I mean I was the only black member of one of the latin american clubs at school and everyone made me feel very welcome. Even when no one was speaking anything but Spanish. :-) There are minority chamber of commerces because minority businesses have it hard in a "white" world. They are networking systems designed to help, not hinder. A good business is good for the economy period, whether it's black or white or hispanic or asian owned. As for black history month and not white? Just to inform you, there is a hispanic heritage month and an asian heritage month. There is also women's history month as well. When history was taught, only the contributions of whites were discussed, not anyone else's contributions. Black History month was established to teach that blacks also contributed to this country just as much as whites. That's also the reason why other months were designated; to honor contributions from other groups as well. White history is taught year round, so please quit whining about how you don't have a month. It's tired. The UNCF was set up to help blacks pay for college, because white schools would not give them the help to go. To keep blacks out, they withheld financial aid. That's also the reason why there are historical black colleges....blacks weren't given the same opportunities as whites, so they established their own colleges. And yes, white people do attend these colleges as well, so don't start in on that These things were created to try and even out the playing field and show that there are more sides to a story than just the "white" side. So you're not "sitting back and taking anything" . That's just how things are. Open up your mind, stop whining, and really see what's out there.

Because White is not a minority, is why there is no white history month. White history is taught almost everyday through out your entire school education. I have never heard of a Latino or Africian chamber of commerce, so I can't really answer that. There are so many scholarship programs that I am sure there are ones that focus on just whites. If you were rich & wanted to start a white scholarship program you could, but why focus on reverse discrimination.
What exactly are we taking, what harm is happening to you or the white society because there is a few positive clubs or programs for different races. If you want to make a difference focus on the positive, not the negative. Make a positive difference in the world instead of cry WHY??? Ask yourself what would you like this country to be like. Personally I am tired of the hate from everyside & angle. Just be happy you are not living in a project that I think are primarily minority races.
I can't stress it enough, why are you so negative, change your ways & your thinking & you might be a happier person.
By the way i'm white. A generic no heritage, nothing to be proud of, no history to be handed down from generation to generation & I envy people that came from something, that are proud of who they are & where they came from.

Latinos and Blacks fight the same battles in this country, consequently, it's almost hard to imagine that they would have any animosity against each other. But unfortunately, they do. Not all Blacks and not all Latinos. And even though there are many interracial marriages between them, there is some tension that still do exist. But as I stated before, both groups have to fight the same discriminatory practices in this racist America, so for the life of me, I'll never understand why any tension exists.

This is actually a comment about the posting. About 4 years ago, a caucasian girl tried to start a caucasian club at here school. She said that the club would study European history. Well, of course, her idea was shut down quickly. The poor girl got harassesed to the point where she had to change schools. Let me ask you, are people who belong to black or latin groups harassed day to day to the point where they have to change schools, or are they just left to be themselves? I believe there is a serious double standard.
The East County chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People vehemently opposed the name of the club, calling it culturally insensitive. Why is it insensitive? In that case, a club that refers to blacks or any other race is insensitive to whites. Anyway, for the whole story, click the following link:

Because, after the problems with segregation and racism that have been prevalent in our society, there is a LOT of hate built up. By a lot of black people, all white people are still percieved as racist and evil. Im surprised that you didn't mention affirmative action though. It is one of the most racist institutions that our government still uses, and it is just wrong. America has gone from one severe, to going to the other.

Because for so many years EVERYTHING was for white people. How about we just celebrate the fact that other races can live amongst white people and embrace the diversity that our children can now experience. Why does everyone have to complain about things that should be a good thing?

I understand how people could be frustrated with this. But I personally believe that complaining about it just promotes the problem and makes it worse so I try to stay away.. In time, this problem will fix itself..
I would like to know though.. What do you propose they teach during this "white history month"???

1.no its not racist
2. they actually made up a "white college fund" a few months ago, though its not nearly as big as the uncf.
3, i with you all the way on this one, even though the type of soicety we live in would consider saying "white pride" or "white history month" "racism fueled by evil white supremacists"....thats why people need to rise up and do something about it
