Pardon: I think you will have to look up and ask again. In particular, the Directory was a committee of the First Republic in France, after the revolution of 1789. In 1795, Napoleon Bonaparte established the Consulate, in which Napoleon was First Consul. This lasted until April 1804, when Napoleon first held a plebiscite to ask whether he should become emperor. He won the plebiscite, and crowned himself Emperor of the French on Dec. 5, 1804.

Coup d’état is the unconstitutional over throw of a government by another state body. In Napoleon's case, he was part of the military, a state body, and over threw the government.
