Ivan, it depends on what your contract calls for. You must have signed one prior to working with your company. However, if your company did not let you know that in your contract, the established amount of time to give them notice is two weeks in writing. It gives you time for a two week vacation, look for another job, etc., and it gives them time to interview others prior to your leaving so that you might give the new person a little time to help them move right into your position. That way you can get a letter of recommendation out of them, and leave in good graces. Lots of Luck!

If you have a contract then it should say in there.
If you don't have a contract then it is polite to give two weeks notice.
However it you are employed "at will" then you can leave without notice or they can get rid of you without notice, but I would still give notice if possible.
It is always best to leave on good terms; you never know when you may need their goodwill in the future.

i agree with cork.

two weeks is the standard. but if you think about how long it will take to find a replacement and work around the fact that you will no longer be there, you should give a month if you liked the people there.

this will give them adequate time to find a new person in and you could offer to train the new person as well as part of your good will towards them.

Two weeks is the standard notice to give. Of course, you don't have to give notice- but if you don't give notice at all, your current employer may consider you "not eligible for rehire" which burns your bridges there, and may harm your future employers' image of you.

Two weeks is normally considered to be fair to the employer. If you are hired at will, you probably don't have to give any, but you should always consider your reputation (e.g. for future references).
