How long should you date someone before becoming engaged? And how long is a good length of time for an engagement?

It depends on how old you are. If you're still a teenager, wait till you're atleast in your 20s.

If you're atleast in your 20s, I say proposing 1 1/2 - 2 years of being with that person is a good amount of time. You have gone through all the seasons, know each other's flaws, are comfortable enough together, etc.

And I agree with the person above me. Know the family first... get to know them and be part of the family's activities. Take a vacation with your significant other. You do learn a lot from that.

I have a boyfriend of almost a year. We were friends for over a year before that. He's loved me that entire time too. And now, we are completely in love with each other and talk about marriage all the time. We plan on getting married after we're done with college.

I think dating 2yrs and a yr of engagement is good. Nothing shorter than that. But hey, it's really whenever you're ready. I got engaged a couple of weeks ago to my boyfriend of 5 yrs, and we are having a year and a half long engagement. I just don't see any point in rushing. Usually those who rush only end in divorce. Just do it when the timing is right.

You should date someone before becoming engaged when you are absolutely sure that you want to spend the rest of your life with this person. After you have prayed and asked God if this is the person that he has designed for you and he gives you the okay to go ahead and marry this person. If you have talked about what kind of life you want to have together after marriage - Kids, how you would discipline your children, money, sex, what you both expect from each other as marriage partners and you are both sure it is what you want - then get engaged. I say keep engagements as short as possible. You already know that it is the person you want to marry, so why wait - get married already and enjoy your life together.

All The Best!

You date someone for as long as it takes to be in love w them and want to spend the rest of your life w them, be that 2 days or 2 years, and I'd say your engagement should last as long as necessary to be ready to begin a successful marriage, and once again, it could be 2 days or 2 years, unfortunately, there are no set answers

This is of course absolutely up to you. You will totally just know when the time is right. I'm sure a lot of people will say the same thing but it's true. Your heart will tell you when it's right. Definitely talk with your potential fiancee about getting married to make sure they feel the same way about you.

if you really love her then wait as long as you can, i know it not romantic and all but its right. but if u want to know the min it whould be like 4-9 months. ppl say to follow your heart and thats true but sometimes you need to just wait a while to just make sure its just not a fling, getting engaged is a big thaing.

Depends on your relationship but probably about one year. You should also meet her family first and take one vacation with him/her. You would be surprised what you learn about a person when you are far from home.
