MLK did good things for the black community in the 20th century, but it seems so many have forgotten about another great civil rights man, Abraham Lincoln, who freed the slaves. Shouldn't he have his own day too, instead of just being lumped in with all other presidents?

Thats my opinion, whats yours?

Yes. He had a vision of equality that is guaranteed in our constitution. For his determination to see that we, as a country, lived up to a basic creed in our founding, took our country to the extreme division, a civil war. The courage to do this is something unfathomable to me, and also greatly admired. Even though he knew what he doing was not backed by all, he knew it was only not just right, but just. To see it through to the end, and with many hardships endured by the whole country, is due at least a day in remembrance of a great man who did something of great importance which, I might add, was not popular at the time.

He isn't necessarily lumped in with all other presidents. Washington's birthday and Lincoln's are supposed to be close together, so that day is for both of them. Besides that, Lincoln did many things that many believe doesn't make him a great civil rights leader, although I think those people should look beyond that. I agree that Lincoln and Washington's birthday should be two holidays.

Presidents Day is to honor Lincoln's and Washington's birthday considering that they have been close mutually. the two have been large Presidents in our history, so they blended their birthdays into sooner or later.

It is called President's Day and it is a federal holiday. Since Abe Lincoln and George Washington's birthdays were so close they combined both, President's Day is for just these two, not all inclusive. It use to be both were holidays but the lawmakers started realizing that they could have so many holidays that no work would get done so they combined the two, so techniquily Abe Lincoln is recognized.

Well Alex, once again you are lacking in information.

Presidents day is not a holiday honoring "all the other presidents." It is for Washington and Lincoln.

Republicans and the businessmen they whore for got one holiday removed to keep people working, and moved it to Monday so as to avoid having the inconvenience of a mid-week
holiday (for the boss).

As far as MLK is concerned liberals started fighting for it under Nixon, but were blocked by conservatives. Reagan vehemently opposed it, and the ar agtainst it in the Senate was led by Jesse Helms. As always, Liberals eventually won.

There use to be Lincoln's birthday and Washington's birthday holidays om 2/12 and 2/23 respectively. they were combined to make room for Martin Luther King's birthday. Legend has it that the ski industry needed a three day weekend between Christmas and February and Martin Luther King's birthday holiday was created.

But what about Washington? Father of our country, cannot tell a lie, Valley Forge, all that? Can't forget Washington.

Or that Monroe? No Lousiana Purchase without Monroe.

Or Grant. Lincoln would have lost the war without Grant.

And what about Jefferson. No declaration of Independence without Jefferson. We'd still be British subjects.

Or Roosevelt. Without Roosevelt we would all be wearing Nazi uniforms and gassing anybody that was different.

Pretty soon we'll be out of days to work. Except Nixon day. Everybody has to work on Nixon day

I thnk that Lincoln should have his own day. He changed this country around and when he was murdered he got people to change their ways and help with the people that Lincoln set free with the Emancipation Proclamation. He helped change the nation and deserves to have his own day. he was a great president.

We used to Celebrate Lincoln's and Washington's birthdays separately, but for some reason they were consolidated and made anonymous, probably in order that the names of some "rich white men" could be downplayed, despite the fact that Lincoln wasn't a rich man. I guess it's just white men of any stature that liberals want to downplay.
