This is completely normal. All babies are different. Some hate to miss out and do their best to hang in there as long as possible. Others like their rest. Just remember: a baby can't get too much sleep this young. They are growing very rapidly, and the rest helps with brain development. Enjoy it while you can!!

All babies are unique, my litte girl slept about 3-6 hours at a time between 3 and 5 months old. Yet my son only sleeps about 4 hours out of the whole day, (6 months old) But sleeps all night long :0) Consider yourself lucky you get these breaks, in months to come nap time will soon fade and be a memory.
If you want your baby to sleep more at night and less during the day try to keep them awake as long as possible.

Right before nap time---> Play peek - a- boo, sing and play keeping them happy, but active for as long as you can. try keeping baby awake for an extra 30min if possible. Also waking baby up early from daytime naps will help.
Try to keep a schedule, this may seem difficult at first but it really helps to put your baby down for naps and bedtime at the same time each day.

Since I myself was a baby who stopped taking naps when I was about 3 months old, as in I stayed awake from the time I woke my mom up in the morning to the time I finally dozed off at night, I definitely hope I have your problem with my baby, if my baby takes after me I'll be asking the exact opposite in a year, is 5-6 hours of sleep per day healthy for a baby, lol

If I were you count ur blessing, but I would definitely say something to his doc as his next visit just to be sure and safe.

Good luck.

(currently 16 weeks 1 day)

It depends on how much they sleep at night. I they are in bed by 8 or 9pm and sleep til about 7am then I would say 5 hours is fine for a 4 month old. If they are active and playing while they are awake and get cranky before nap time then I would say they are normal.

I really depends on the baby, and how much he is sleeping at night. At four months, my son was sleeping 11-12 hours at night, and three naps in the day, usually totalling about 4-5 hours, and my doctor said this was great. I think it sounds like your baby is right on target.

Babies sleep because they need it.. Don't worry at all!
My first daughter would sleep for 5 hours, wake up, eat, and go back to sleep again. My second daughter, is 13 months, sleeps a couple of hours, eats, plays and then takes another nap. At the 4-6 month stage let them sleep..Pretty soon, they'll start to skip naps.

If the napping is all at once I would bring it up at the doctor, but if that is the amount of time the baby sleeps all day that should be fine. My kids took two 1.5-2 hour naps at that age. Babies will sleep when they need to as long as he /she is waking up to eat (during the day) all should be well.

Every child is different. My kids where big sleepers. They slept from 7pm until 10am and then down again at 12pm until 3 pm, up until they where 7 months Then they started to wake up early but still had a morning and arvo nap. If its interfferring with night times then try to cut them back, but if its working for you adn the baby then let them be.

Gosh, it seems like such a long time ago that my daughter was that young, but she is 3 now and sleeps about 2-3 hours. I would ask my doctor, just to be on the safe side, no need for an appointment, just a simple call and they can answer that.

It is completely fine for a child of this age to sleep alot. Just wait in a few months it won't be as much sleep as it is now, but the continuous following your child around the house to make sure they don't get hurt or put anything in their mouth. I say appreciate it now, you'll be missing it soon.=)
