I was thinking about this a short while age. I am a Canadian and was wondering what would have happened in North American and the World if the thirteen colonies had never left the British Colonies. Would we have had the biggest country in the World or a bunch of smaller English speaking nations similar to the South American Experience with Spanish speaking nations.
The British Commonwealth was a powerful draw to the nations that were in it. Of course the British Commonwealth broke up eventually but this was more for economic reasons that anything else.

Absolutely. Without the Revolution we wouldn't be the super power we are today. The British monarchy had limited selfish views. The monarchy used the colonies to support its own economy. As Britain grew the colonies were stuck paying heavy taxes on improvements they would never see. We wanted a free republic, not some monarchy to bog us down.

Yes, because Britain wouldn't have been able to sustain such a growing colony, just as they couldn't keep Hong Kong and India for too long. The 13 colonies wouldn't have benefitted from British rule as they did independently.

Yes, if only to establish the first and only representative republic based on individual and States' rights. Of course, we no longer LIVE under that system, having given away the States' Rights with the popular vote for Senators, and not caring enough about our own individual rights. Instead, we allow our hired servants to be our rulers.
