Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.
Basically, the first time someone does something bad to you, shame on them (for doing it); the second time they do it, shame on you (for letting it happen when you already know better).

The saying goes, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." My mother's addition is, "Fool me thrice , you get what you deserve!"
