I have seen hamsters and other rodents that 'beg', I have seen them 'come to mommy', But that's about all I've seen a hamster do...Rats on the other hand, my rat would hide his eyes, come when called (even when he was loose), I would sit in the grass and gently toss him (not throw or anything like that) to the end of my feet and he would run and jump on my tummy....Good treats for him were fresh veggies or grasshoppers, anything that they are allowed to eat but don't get often.

Just find a training book at a local library and when the hamster is obedient to you, give him/her some snacks and when training is over, give the pet some water and let it rest.

This would be a first, so what you could do is create like a little game or maze. keep playing everyday and soon it will learn trust me.
