James Earl Ray on April 4, 1968
He was sentenced to a 99- year sentence in prison. He plead guilty in order to avoid a trial conviction and possibly (probably) a death penalty. A lot happened after his conviction. He died in 1998 and now the King family does not believe Ray had anything to do with the murder of Martin Luther King.
