It depends if that is what you want to do. If you are fairly computer proficient, it is a good place to start. One thing though, it is a very stressful job. People calling in about their problem wants their problem resolved. if it is not, they can get pretty testy and sometimes mean. Nowadays however, a lot of help desk support is being outsourced, for example, Dell may be hiring their telephone support to India, Phillipines, etc. This is a very competitive market.

If it is something that you would like to do however, it can be a good career path.
