The Bill of Rights was written so that it would be clear to all Americans what the government was prohibited from doing or what were your rights as a private citizen. This was based on the idea that even the English had a Bill of Rights written in 1689.

The Bill of Rights was written so that the Anti-Federalists would vote for the Constitution. The Bill of Rights was written to visually see tthe rights of the people and the states. The people wanted to see their rights written.

So that the government could not tramp on the rights of its citizens. Actually there was a big debate over whether the bill of rights should have been part of the constitution. It was debated in the first Congress in the late 1700s.

It was written in 1789 to let the average person have equal rights, and make American life easier, and established a common rule of decency, and standards on many things. This website should really helped (it did for me!) And it did give the Americans some freedom form complet government control. As long as they followed theese rules!

Constitutional law is harder to amend than the amendments that amend it.
Sounds funny, but think about it.
If the founding fathers thought that the day might come to remove our Freedom of Speech, this was a way to make it easier for the future, rather than amending the Constitution as a whole.
