Look at it this way if both numbers had the same denominator it would be easier to see. So convert
2/3 to 4/6 and
1/2 to 3/6

so now you can compare 4/6 to 3/6 and determine that 2/3 is greater than 1/2 because 4 is greater than 3. Hope that helps.

2/3 is greater than 1/2 how you figure that out is put both beside each other and cross multiply like this 2/3 x 1/2 2x 2 is 4 1 x 3 is 3 so 2/3 is greater

Greater than.

Whenever you are in doubt about deciding which fraction is larger, multiple them both by 1 in order to achieve a common denominator.

For example

2/3 * 2/2 = 4/6

while

1/2 * 3/3 = 3/6

Obviously 4/6 is greater than 3/6

This works for very complicated fractions like 53/54 versus 51/53

2/3 is greater because if you find the least common denominator for both fractions, it is six. so the 2/3 is multiplied by 2 on the top and bottom, resulting in 4/6. the 1/2 is 3/6

4/6 > 3/6
2/3 > 1/2
