A review tells you about the book, while a summary picks out the key points and ignores all the filler information. A summary captures the essence of the book -- the main thrust of what has been written.

A review is a critic summary of a work (e.g.: an artwork, a text) by a third party.
A summary is a bird's eyeview of the same work (whether by the author or by a third party) encapsulating the essential aspects of such work.
While the review is critical of the work, the summary is not.

That's not at all what it is.
Remember in elementary school and after lunch with the lights out, the teacher would tell us a few things that he/she read to us yesterday to bring us up to date? That was a review.
If you've ever told anyone that "Rocky" was about a boxer whose a nobody who gets a chance to fight the champion of the world and proved he was worthy in the end-these words summarize the story. They do not give a bulletted presentation of the steps rocky took to be worthy.

I have just finished giving you my presentation subject matter, then I summarize the presentation.
One week later, because I know that you did not do your homework, I review the presentation subject matter in a vain attempt too help you get a passing grade.
