Will someone please explain nuclear equations to me? I don't get them. When you're bombarding something with particles to make it produce new stuff (in nuclear transformation, I think) How do you get it, the products and the reactants?

Nuclear transformation is not chemistry.
A good way to transmute elements is to bombard them with neutrons. This gets into the nucleus of an atom and makes it unstable. It then has several options depending on what element it is. It might shoot off an electron, pop out an alpha particle or split into two bits with a shot of gamma radiation. In all of these cases the element or elements will be different to the original ones or be a different isotope of the same element.

I think the following sites should help you. Remember that the superscripts (the number above the element) and the subscripts (number below the element) must balance on both sides of the equation. Then memorize the alpha, beta and gamma particle symbols with super- and subscripts.
