We love what we love...like how you love your hobby or your pasttime or how you admire your celebrity idol... if you don't mind just stay out of our business....

I used the word scrutinize to make it more euphemistic.....and somehow more puzzling to other people..aslo to hide what I really meant...

The same reason they scrutinize/criticize anyone who likes something they don't. They just don't like it. They aren't open-minded enough to realize that me not enjoying football/fishing/ or their hobby means nothing about them and them not liking anime means nothing about me!

If you enjoy something, anime, XBox, fishing, golf, reading, etc, all it means is that you like one of those things. But they don't think that way. If they can't understand, then there must be something wrong with the person who does enjoy it.

Mine started out as fan fiction too and for the very same reason. No main girls in anime or even OCs made it seem real at all....it was so disappointing. I first started reading some for Hellsing and LOTR and then expanded from there. I think I was around 12-13 as well. I think it was in junior high. At first I was a little weirded out w/anything beyond kissing but then I got used to it and now really enjoy it. It seems so much more real than the cookie cutter lame main girl characters and usually there is so much more sexual tension (which is sometimes waaay better than the actual deed itself). Right now I'm a little more than into Naruto yaoi/shounen-ai. I HIGHLY suggest Body Buddy 1 & 2 if you're a fan of Hidan/Kakuzu. They hate eachother so much it's so messed up...and or some reason I love it.

I think that most of it has to do with the fact that anime is not respected as a valid "artform" in the US. It is viewed as being for children like most of the American made animation. There is also the culture difference. Most people think that if they don't like something nobody should and make fun of it. Personally I think most anime is a little silly but I believe for me it has to do with a culture difference. The chessy 80's sounding music(in alot of the anime I have seen) and the Japanesse style animation just doesn't appeal to me. My personal opinion and I have no place to tell you that what you like is not any good. Now don't get me wrong there is some anime I love(Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Ghost in the Shell, just to name a few.) Don't worry about what others think about what you like.

Half of the people who hate anime don't even know what anime is, in the first place! Sad to say it's true. But yeah, there is this stereotype about how anime is stupid, childish and for losers. So all the people don't want to admit that they like anime because of the fear of not being accepted as a "cool person". It's so dumb but it is true and it is still going to happen.

I actually think you mean "criticize" (scrutinize just means "examine") but I understand what you're saying.

I'm pushing 40 (which I suppose is better than "pulling" it) but still love anime and probably always will. Of course, at my age, I generally don't care WHAT other people think.

people do that cuz they don't have anything else to do. They jus think that anime is weird and they think what they example of anime haters are people who love sports. Atleast anime fans have something to shine out about out of the crowd

Are you sure you know what scrutinize means? You aren't helping people's opinions of anime lovers w a question like this.

scrutinize

verb

1. To look at carefully or critically: check (out), con, examine, go over, inspect, peruse, study, survey, traverse, view. Informal case. Idioms: give a going-over. See investigate.
2. To look at or on attentively or carefully: eye, observe, regard, survey, watch. Idioms: have one's keep an eye on, keep tabs on. See awareness/unawareness, see/not see.

Because they are jealous that we have a cool hobby that continually changes and developes, and they need something to hate/ fear/ despise/ not like because they don't know about it. Man has always feared what he does not know. It's that simple. ^-^

It is our hobby. They just misunderstand it and think it's all porn. But we all know different. We are among friends here. And did you ever find out what your avatar was from?
