I'm writing a couple of chapters for this thing and it has to be done on Wednesday ( I know I am a procrastinator) and I have a HORRIBLE case of writers block. WHAT TO DO ? WHAT DO TO?

I have this box of cards called the Observation Deck. When I have writers block, I use the deck and the creative juices start flowing. I'll pull 3 for you:

1. Switch Instruments--Use a tape recorder and start talking. You never know what you'll say.

2. Get Specific--Show, don't tell. Don't tell us the man got angry; show him punching a hole through the motel wall or biting through his lower lip. Don't tell us the war was brutal, do as Richard Price suggests: show us the burnt socks of children lying beside the road.

3. Raise the Stakes--Show how dire the situation is or is going to be...if you're trying to convince people not to destroy the rain forest, don't just talk about the loss of pretty flowers, show how millions of people will die without the oxygen those trees provide. Make your readers gasp for air as you paint a picture of the world in 20 years.

I don't know if those will help you, but they help me a lot, so I thought I'd share.

Here are a few things u can try...

1. Just think about the subject b4 u go 2 sleep. depending on if it is fiction or not u can probably come up with some way around it.

2. forget about it for a while, then it may just POP into ur head.

3. think of what the theme is and how u want the conflict in the story(if its fictional) to be resolved. Add some supporting details and voila, a story (don't forget a lot of description to lengthen it)

4. If all else fails try a new topic

There's nothing to worry about. First of all, read about it online and know what it really is. Try Wikipedia.

Second of all, this is what I do to get over it (bear in mind that I only write non fiction)

* Watch/Listen to talk shows.
* Listen to good music, that has inspiring lyrics.
* Go out and just wander around, preferably in a park. This can inspire you like nothing else.
* Read a book about anything, preferably about the subject you want to write about.
* Be positive, don't go like "I won't be able to write again, I am feeling all down etc" all the time. You should know that everything can be done in time with a bit of optimism.
* Talk to people, just anyone. Start a conversation out of nowhere, it can give you inspiration trust me.
* YA would be a great place for inspriation, but it depends on the subject you are writing about.

Put it off until you feel the flow again. Don't push it. Wait until it comes to you..... As you can tell, I also like to procrastinate too. lol

what helps me is I write some ideas on paper first as a rough copy, then I type it up on the internet. It's harder than it sounds but that helps me quite a bit.
