You are supposed to eat 300 extra calories a day. If you are overweight, your goal should be to gain 15-25lbs, although it's kinda hard!! Size 12 doesn't seem to me to be overweight however. My Doc. told me "You can't/shouldn't use the eating for two mentality". That's where people gain a ton of weight!! Good Luck and Congrats on the babe:)))

300 calories a day. As another poster said, that's not eating for two! I also agree that a size 12 is probably not overweight. The 15-25 range is recommended for women that are technically obese and few women who are can still fit in a 12.
I'd say don't worry too much about the weight, no matter how hard it may be. It really is for a short time, and it will come off. Without a whole lot of work, I lost the 40 pounds I gained with my son in just about 3 months. It's taking me longer after my second, but it is coming off without a lot of lifestyle change on my part.
I would say make sure you are eating when hungry, but not necessarily every time you have a craving. And get lots of walking in. You will find that this will help you have better stamina for the delivery, but also make it easier for you to get back out walking after the baby. I personally think that the reason the weight came off faster for me with my first is that I was able to walk my whole pregnancy, and got out walking right after my son was born. I was on bedrest toward the end of my second, and I'm definitely more out of shape.
Again, try not to worry about it. You will get your figure back eventually, but it may not be exactly the same. But it's worth it! =)
Congratulations and good luck!

They say to add 300-400 to your regular diet when pregnant. You don't have to actually eat for 2 people when pregnant. Just eat smaller meals throughout the day in moderation and lots of fruits and veggies. Stay away from processed foods and refined sugar. Normally the doctor wants a woman to gain up to 30 lbs. the whole pregnacy and you will gain most of it in the last trimester.

Yes they do! Weight gain during pregnancy varies by the person, but significant weight gain can and does occur. My daughter gains around 50 lbs each time, but gets back in the gym and tones up again. She naturally doesn't retain weight after pregnancy, many women do and many never lose it all even after working out etc.
My wife retained about 15 lbs after each of 2 pregnancies and (30 total) and toned it but never lost it. She gave me 2 great kids though and i found slightly chubby and stretch marks can be sexy too.
You'll be fine!

I'm not positive but I'm pretty sure your body needs 300 more calories a day than normal. Best wishes to you and your baby :)
