DVD's are composed of many layers of plastic and reflective coating... the top layer is a protective lacquer. When the lacquer is damaged, the surface is no longer fully transparent and it is difficult for your CD-DVD player / playstation to read the information.

For minor scratches, DVD cleaning fluid (or on rare occassions even spit) as suggested by the previous answerers, would work. However, for deeper scratches, try a scratch repair fluid available at Compu-USA or your local office supply store.

A lens mending kit for eye glasses actually works the best because it fills in the scratch without producing distortions. "Clean Lens" is one they are advertising on TV.

Before investing in a scratch repair or lens mending kit, make sure that the scratch is not so deep that it damaged the core reflective layer of the DVD where the content is encoded. If the damage is that deep, you're going to have to resign to getting a new disk.

the "damaged" part u cant really do any thing, and spit only works if it dirty(trust me i would know being an extensive gamer). try buying a "scratch crayon". the crayon fills in the scratches, and it works like a charm. but DONT JUST USE A REGULAR CRAYON! u can get these crayons off the internet, or gaming stores would probably have them
