Check out the Vista requirements at Microsoft to see if your PC has what it needs to run it.

There would be no need to upgrade to Vista if your PC doesn't meet the minimum requirements...and with meeting minimum only requirements, you will not get very good performance...you would be better to stick with the OS you have.

I have been a beta tester of Vista, and I do like it so far. The only issue my computer had with it, was my TV Tuner card was not compatible. Not sure of the cost yet. There are 4 versions of this program. I've heard the "experts" say to stay away from the "Home Basic" version, claiming it is too limited. They recommend the "Home Premium" version. My guess is that if you purchase Vista, you will have the choice of upgrading your current system, or doing a clean install. I would choose the latter., after backing up any files you want to keep. I recommend downloading the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor. After downloading it, it will scan your computer, and tell you if it is capable of running the program. Here is the link. If you can't open it, just look up Vista on Microsoft's website. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/upgradeadvisor/default.mspx

No, unless you 'upgrade' the video GPU drivers.
And, get other new hardware, that is 'registered' with Vista.
And, make sure there is more than 1.5Gb RAM, (Vista really runs OK with 2 Gb RAM).
So, it would be less expensive to purchase a computer in late 2007, with Vista already installed.
Really, Vista is slow, bloated, and still has suffers "114,000 Microsoft Virus Definitions". And, there are some new flaws, like dead ends that folks are reporting they get trapped into...
Not to discourage everyone from spending big bucks, because that money goes to people who enhoy driving fast cars.
