Sometimes nothing. The woman must be prepared to make a police report. Pictures should also be taken of the bruised area, if she wants to sue. She can sue and sometimes wins. There are shelters that women can go to, if they need a place to stay, if the man that hits them is their husband or brother or father. Many women, especially here in the USA, fight back because they feel that the police do not do much and they want instant retribution. The man may have to pay a fine and if he has many asalt charges (arrests for hitting or hurting someone), he might be also asked to go to classes to control his anger or sspend some time in jail. This also stays on his criminal record and can be accessed by doing a background check at the police department. Usually men do not stop this behavior, but if they really want to, they can ask a psychologist or someone who is qualified to help them control themselves. It takes lots of time.

If American men are smart, they avoid hitting women at all costs. A man who hits a woman is viewed as weak, abusive and undisciplined. He can be arrested and easily convicted of assault. Most women will not date or marry a man that has hit a woman.

They can be locked for just trying to hit a women .
No, some men don't think the women will turn their butt in .
Some have to find out the hard way . Take my word for it , if you attempt to hit me & you are a man expect to spend the night in jail and if that doesn't work . Don't go to sleep in my house !

Call the cops and have them arrested. Men should try to avoid it as they could end up in jail.

Sometimes american womens hit back. If not then you just go to jail

The woman will hit him back. In other countries, the woman is usually ignored and/or blamed. American women aren't second-class citizens, we'll whup you and throw you in jail.

they get arrested, have to go to anger management,pay a fine, and usually wind up doing it again, alot of abuse in american households. women put up with too much and so do their kids. time for a change, thats why you have so many single mothers out there.

a lot of times in america this goes unreported. but if a guy hits a girl and she tells the police then he would get arrested.
