I would like to know how my daughters school matches us against the other schools. We live in the Dallas Independent School District.

I'm not trying to find a "best" school, however, I am trying to keep my daughter from going to a school that is rated below "acceptable". She is an exceptional child but with a low score on an assessment test (however, high for her school) she is does not qualify to go to the magnet schools in her area. I feel like this is a turning point in her life, and i want her to keep her ambitions high, which right now, she wants to be a veternarium (mom can't spell) and is anxious to go to college. I don't think this will be much encouraged at her school, more gang/weapon control.

Check with the Texas department of education - they may post how you school does on statewide standardize testing.

Good Luck!!!

Stop trying to find the "best" school and concentrate on understanding your child's needs and identifying a school - and the people and programs within that school - that meets them. Standardized test scores are a poor indicator of the quality of a school, as are rankings based on AP classes, class size, college admissions, student-to-computer ratios, and so on. The only real way to judge whether or not a school is a good fit for your child is to spend time there, talk to the staff, and monitor your child's progress and satisfaction with the school.
