I won't take any digital communications in high school so I cannot help very much but I hope I can
It depends on what grade you're in
If your in High school like me I would try things that you enjoy
Me I would talk about sports like football or basketball
or Pep Band behavior and how it effects the mood of the game
something like that

5 minutes, eh? Do you have to do a demonstration? A persuasive speech or what?

I would suggest anything that uses props. They distract the audience while you do your talk.

Do you have a hobby? You can demon state something from the hobby. (Like, if you collect sports cards- you can bring some of your favorites with you and use the board to illustrate the values of the cards).

Demonstration? How about sports? When I was in college, a fellow student brought some putters into class and had a few of us stand up in front and he demonstrated the correct way to put- including posture and grip.

Persuasive? I did a speech on brushing and flossing teeth. This could also be a demonstration speech. I showed the class the correct way to floss and brush. Not very interesting, but I got an A for the speech.

Other ideas: how to save energy, supporting the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan (there is a website called "Adopt a Platoon") you can give the class the addresses and e-mails. They can write to a serviceman or woman.

My daughter grabbed the attention of a crowd in a class by offering to teach them about the birds and the bees. She then told a 5 minute story about how she once buried an egg shell trying to grow a egg/chick. It worked because it was so inocent. Try telling a story about your youth.

Some ideas, mistakes or confusion in our youth can be interesting and help a crowd bond witht the speaker. One thing about telling of youthful innocents... we were all young once... and we all love innocents... weather we were one once or not.

Do it on a topic that interests you and that you have knowledge in. Make sure it's something that you can talk about for 5 minutes.
