There are Several Characters that have had the name Superboy in Comics. There is the Clark Kent of Earth-1 Pre-Crisis, there is Superboy (Kon-El) the Clone of Superman, Superboy that appeared in a short lived 1980’s TV series, and there is the Superboy of Earth Prime.

The first Appearance of the Character Superboy was in More Fun Comics #101 (1944). He was then moved on to Adventure Comics before receiving his own series in 1949 that lasted until #258, December 1979. This series was then re titled Legion of Superheroes and ran from #259, January 1980 until #313, July 1984.

During Crisis on Infinite Earths, a new Superboy of Earth Prime was created in DC Comics Presents #87 Nov 1985, who would later disappear in issue 12 of Crisis and reappear in the Infinite Crisis Mini Series in 2005-06.

There was also a side comic that was based on the TV series, Superboy the comic book from February 1990 until issue #22, December 1991. This Superboy was Clark Kent, but was not in the main DC universe, and had no influence as the 1986 Revamp of Superman, the Man of Steel Mini-Series did away with the Clark Kent being Superboy before being Superman.

The first Appearance of Kon-El was Adventures of Superman #500 (1993). He went on to star in several issues of Adventures of Superman and other Superman Books until Adventures of Superman #505 In February 1994, he started on in his own series that lasted for 100 issues and ended in July 2002. For a short time there was a side Series, Superboy and the Ravers that lasted from September 1996, until #19 in March 1998.

Also, while his own series was going on, but after his own team fell apart, Superboy moved into Young Justice in September 1998 until issue #55, May 2003. This lead into the Titans/Young Justice Graduation Day Crossover, and the new Teen Titans Vol 4 started in September of 2003. Superboy died in issue 6 of Infinite Crisis.

There is also a Smallville Comic series that follows the Smallville TV series. It is on Hiatus, but started as a 1 shot in 2002, and regular series in 2003.

The original, with the adventures of Clark Kent as Superboy in Smallville, was in the 40's.

The series featuring Conner Kent, the clone who just passed away in Infinite Crisis, ran from about 1993 to 2001.

Which Superboy? The cloned Kon-El wearing jeans and a t-shirt version? If that is the one you are thinking of, his book probably started in 1994 or 1995, after the Death of Superman and Reign of the Supermen story lines. It was a good book up until the issue 25 area IMHO.

If you look up Superboy on the Toonopedia site, they have his entire publishing history, along with the names of the writers and artists who worked on most of his issues.
