Hey all I have a paper thats Due Tomorrow, no I did not start on it late. I just got the paper last week and I need help with my thesis about "what is the future of our soical security system" also examples, detials and experiences about social security. If you can help I would gladly appreciate it....

The big problem with Social Security is that the population is aging. Thus there will be less working people paying Social Security taxes to support retired people drawing social security benefits. I believe that this ratio is a third of what it was when social security began. You should be able to find statistics for when ss becomes negative (more is paid out to beneficiaries than is paid in via taxes), and when the ss trust fund (surpluses that have been accumulated over the years (although this is really an accounting myth, there's no ss bank account or anything like that)), goes negative.
President Bush proposed investing SS funds in the market so that money could be paid out without adding to tax rates. The idea wen nowhere. At some point in the future we're going to have to either raise SS taxes or cut benefits, or both
