I have a pool table, and it's great for getting people to come over. Also, at almost any social gathering, invariably the pool table becomes a topic of discussion. This usually leads to a few games being played, and with lots of fun by all.
So if you like sitting alone on the computer, buy the gaming system. If you like having people over, buy the pool table. :-D

i would pick the pool table...When ur buddies come over, u can all play pool. No monthly fees. All u need 2 buy is the table, the balls, and sticks.....and an optional shelf 4 the sticks. With the gaming desktop, u need high speed internet, which does add up after a while. Usually, a computer game is 1 player...sure, its fun, by urself, and thats about it. With the pool table, u can play by urself, or with people. But, the choice is urs, and so is the money. Good luck.

Gaming PC for sure. You will be set for any game coming out in the next 5 years, since gaming pcs are usually pretty advanced. You are getting more for your money by going for the gaming pc. Say you get sick of playing pool, well there's nothing else you can do with it. But with a gaming pc and the ability to download any game you want, the possibilities are endless. You don't necessarily need high speed internet to enjoy your gaming pc, its a nice addition but you could go dsl if you are worried about cost. Even so, you can get high speed internet installed for $30 a month.
I don't know how important quality is to you, but you can always get those cheap pool tables for like 200 and spend the rest on a new pc.

Get the gaming PC for sure. Who wants a bunch of people who don't really like you anyway hanging around your game room just because you have a pool table. They'll only end up getting drunk and puking on it and ruining it anyway. At least with the PC you get a pool game and can play by yourself without those loser 'friends' hanging around and mooching off you. Trust me I've seen it before a million times.

I would go for the pool table, less problems, easier to maintain and not hard to use. Plus I just like pool.

You won't get a really good slate pool table for that little amount of money so don't bother buying a crappy one. A good slate table is like 3k or more. Trust me, if it isn't slate, don't get it. It will warp and won't be a flat playing surface.
