You can get started by writing the book. If you're talking about getting an agent, you can write a "treatment" for the book. More importantly though, I would read books on how to write books. That's going to give you a great start. It will also help you acquaint yourself to the process of getting published. It's not easy, let me tell you.

You need to know what you're talking about so start making notes and doing research on the topic. Check booksellers to find out what else has been written. It may feed your treatment of the topic and your publisher will want to fill a niche not well served by existing books. As you learn more, start making an outline of how you plan to structure your book. This is usually how most people get started.

first write the book,
it will take about 2 years if its a big book,
then get a editor,
you have to share the profit,
also with the illustrater for the cover =]],
then you will need a publisher,
ask around like barnes and noble to see if they will take you 1 night for a book sighning,
that will get tons of people to buy it,
make sure if its your first book that its really good so you will have a good title for yourself and if you make any other books than peole will love to buy them=]]>
good luck.....

outline of your main idea/s just write down what pops in your head about the book you want to write then go over it and see what ideas you want to keep or get rid of.
