Odd and strange has to be the yellow duck tour around the city center. The lats half is in the famous albert docks, literally in the docks!! Worth it though. I live in Liverpool and thought it was great!

Ste444 - The ALbert Dock has hardly any shops these days, though it has plenty of nightlife places, and the Museum of Liverpool Life closed last year!
I say give Quiggans a visit, that's on Renshaw Street, in the old Barcelona Bar. There's a whole shopping centre full of weird and wonderful things.
There's also the Williamson Tunnels
http://www.williamsontunnels.com/ These are tunnels that were build by soldiers coming back from the Napoleonic Wars who were employed by Joseph Williamson to dig tunnels - a kind of early Job Creation / YTS scheme lol.

Seeing as you are visiting an art exhibition, how about Chambre Hardman's house?
Chambre Hardman died in 1988 and worked as a photographer in Liverpool all his life, making a living doing portrait work. He photographed Dame Margot Fonteyn and Ivor Novello.
Whilst portrait work gave him his living it freed him to pursue his passion for landscape photography. You will probably have seen Hardmans work somewhere without realising it is his.
His house and studio has been renovated by the National Trust, is open to visitors, and has an exhibition of some of his photographs.
I don't know when you are visting but the house will not be open this year until March.

Hi i live in liverpool an have done all my life. I don't know if this meets your requirements but The Tate is in The Albert Dock which has plenty of shops full of weird things to buy and lots of Liverpool Memorabilia. I'd try the Museum of Liverpool Life which is in the Albert Dock itself.

I visited and enjoyed it. The Merseyside Maritime Museum became very exciting, particularly the slavery show. I additionally enjoyed the Beatles attractions, the super Anglican Cathedral, and the 1900-era shape close to the port. I observed the small cutting-edge artwork museum close to the port, and had to work out the Walker even though it had closed by using the time I have been given there. All in all i might advise it to travellers to England who're attempting to get previous London - it particularly is the finest of the interior of sight British cities and had an important place in background.
