a friend has commented that it could spell underlying illness. I have looked up the net and am getting conflicting information on the topic, could anyone enlighten me? I have had my eyes tested in the past and the opticians have never mentioned these freckles.

Generally if they are just little freckles on your iris (the coloured bit) I don't think you should worry, however there would be no harm in pointing them out to your optician the next time you are there, and every now and then checking for any changes in them.

ARE THE FRECKLES ACTUALLY IN YOUR EYES??

I am a redhead, covered with freckles, but I have never heard of any IN eyes before!

It seems like the Dr. would mention them if they were serious.

freckles in your eyes? or something floating in your field of vision? If they are floating in your field of vision they are called floaters they are like debris in the fluid in your eye, it is considered normal but if you should get a alot of them suddenly and feel pain or loss of vision or flashing lights check with your eye doctor because that may be a sign or retnal detachment.
