Last year a close friend of mine died of AIDS. I just want to know, because when I read an article about this, I was shocked and appalled. Everyone with insurance or that can afford it, should be granted this medicine he has, not just the rich and famous. If I'm wrong feel free to let me know.

Lets be clear on 1 thing, there is no cure for AIDS

And let me start by saying I am sorry about your loss

Now moving on...

What people don't realize is that people can live long healthy lives after being diagnosed with HIV.
Magic Johnson does not have AIDS, he has HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. People who are HIV positive, must follow strict diets, take their meds, and exercise.

Magic Johnson, was physically fit way before the virus got to him. Yes, he has the finances to buy medicine to keep his Tcell count up. When he 1st announced that he had HIV, there were several medicines on the market, so he along with other HIV + people were taking 6 and 7 different meds. Now that doctors understand it more now than back then, HIV+ people don't have to take so many different medicines. The once a day pill is available to everyone not just Magic Johnson

If there are HIV+ individuals who cannot afford meds, they should consult their local health department.

NO one is ever cured from aids. So no it's not safe to say that he is cured. He is probably taking medicines to keep it under control but he's def. not cured. But going through your local health department helps with aiding medicine. There is a waiting list though mind you that this disease is very common and everyone needs medicine for it, it's just that he can afford to not sit on a waiting list like others.

He hasn't cured anything. All he's done is take a slurry of medicines that supress the ravaging effects of his disease. Besides, all medicines have side effects, imagine 20 different pills. The drug interaction problems alone could make you even sicker.
The best cure for AIDS and HIV is not to get it in the first place.

He is not cured of HIV/AIDS. There is no cure for aids. There can be slowing in the progression of the disease by certain medication. But he is still capable of spreading the disease and over time his system will become resistant to the drugs he is taking and yes he will eventually die of complications from the disease.
