there are 4 angles. the top two are 70 degrees and 110 degrees. the next is unknown(x) and the next is 40+x. i have to find the value of x, then find the unknown angle. HELP!

What is relationship of the angles? Are they forming a quadrilateral? Or are these angles at the intersection of two lines?

X =70.

Your first two angles differ by 40 and total 180. Your second two angles differ by 40. If we assume that you are looking for a group of angles which total 360, the second two angles would need to total 180. This would give you valid angles for a quadrilateral (actually a parallelogram). Or the possible angles of intersection of two lines.

you are looking for the remaining angles of a quadrilateral wherein 2 angles are less than 90 degrees and the other two are more than 90 degrees but less than 180 degrees, you said that the top two angles are 70 and 110 degrees if it is indeed a quadrilateral it follows that the other two angles are 70 and 110 as well. You no longer need an equation, since a quadrilateral has 2 pairs of equal angles . But to check: use this equation 70 + 110 + 40 + x + x = 360 (sum of internal angles of a quadrilateral) simplifying you have:
220 + 2x = 360
2x = 360 - 220
2x = 140
x = 70

it follows that the other angle (40 + x):
40 + 70 = 110

the four angles are 70, 110, 70, and 110 internal angles of a quadrilateral.

ok, so like the top two angles add up to 180, and a 4 sided shape makes a total of 360 degrees. so.. the unknown angles, 40+x and x will also have 2 add up to 180. so its gon b like 40+x+x=180 which is also 40+2x=180 minus 40 on both sides, 2x=140, so the unknown side is 70 , or x=70, u know the rest

Im assuming htat thes angles make a circle or Quadralateral?? If so all the angles equal 360 degrees. so
70 + 110 +x+(40 + x) = 360
x + 40 +x = 360 - 70 - 110
40 + 2x = 180
2x = 180 - 40
x=140 / 2
x = 70
x + 40 = 110

Angles:
1. 70
2. 110
3. x
4. 40 + x

*Add the angles together to equal 360 degrees...

70 + 110 + x + 40 + x = 360

First: combine "like" terms...

220 + 2x = 360

Sec: subtract 220 from both sides (the opposite side means the opposite sign)...

220 - 220 + 2x = 360 - 220
2x = 140

Third: solve for "x" by isolating it on one side > divide both sides by 2...

2x/2 = 140/2
x = 70

*Replace 70 with the x-variable for angles 3 and 4...

3. 70 degrees
4. 40 + 70 = 110 degrees

70 + 110 + x + 40 + x = 360
2x + 220 = 360
2x = 140
x = 70
x+40 = 110

360 (the number of degrees in a quadrilateral) minus (110 + 70). This equals 180.

Then you have 180 - (40 + x) = x
So 40 + 2x = 180
2x = 140.

What is x?

write an equation:110+70+x+40+x= 360
combine like terms: 220+2x=360
isolate the variable: 2x=360-220
2x= 140
solve: x=140/2
x= 70 therefore one angle is 70 and the last one is 40+70= 110
i think this is it bcuz a squares angles total 360

if the four angles make a Quadralateral:
70 + 110 + x + (x + 40) = 360
220 + 2x = 360
2x = 140
x = 70

tope 2...70 X2= 140 +110= 250.
since there are 4 angles it's all equal to 360*
im thinkin 360-250= 110-40= 70 degrees.

the fourth angle is 40+70 degrees...Thus the value of X is equal to 70....hope this helps ya! =]
