Apple uses a "Lian-Li" brand case for the PowerMac

They use "Seagate" Harddrives, which are IDENTICAL to the ones I use in my PC. In fact, I've installed a $350, 750GB PC harddrive INTO a mac [yet, the same drive, identical, from apple, costs $599]

They use "Nvidia" or "ATI" Video cards

The use INTEL processors. The VERY same processor, identical
that is in the mac is in the p.c. They are interchangable.

The use Intel or Foxconn motherboards

ALL of these products are in existance in the pc world.


With a mac, minor version updates cost money.

Going from OS X {10.0} to OS X {10.1} costs $100

Going from Windows XP Pro (2600), to Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 1 (2600.1) costs NOTHING.
Service Pack 2? Free
Service Pack 2b ? Free

Windows VISTA is a COMPLETELY different operating system, it's like going from version "10.0" to version "11.0" in the mac world.


P.S. I own macs, pc's, and sgi stations.

The only reason I still own macs is

1) My mac mini is smaller than my previous "windows" based htpc.
2) Final Cut Pro. Not that I use it, it's that some clients use it, and I have to be able to open their work product, so that I can convert it to the faster, more efficient, more feature rich alternative products that I use :-)

Apple is a good quality brand name, however they aren't any better than Dell's higher end machines, or IBM. There are a few reasons that you will spend more for any Apple. One is that Apple uses an OS that is proprietary. You can only run a Mac OS on a Mac machine, therefore they can ask a higher price because the Mac faithful will have no choice but to pay the price. Since Apple doesn't have the market share that Dell and many of the PC manufacturers do, they demand a higher profit margin on a per unit basis. Then there is the fact that Apple just offers a good quality product. Since they don't allow third party computers to run their OS, they have more quality control. If you purchase a similarly priced Windows machine from Dell or IBM for instance, you will find that same quality. I assume you are making the price comparison from a Mac to a lower end PC. If you are, this is where the major price difference will come into play, but you aren't comparing Apples to Apples so to speak.

The Emac is one of the worst quality computers ever built. We had 50 of them and every one had burnt, faded screens within two years. You can't replace CDs or hard drives and they weigh as much as a Buick. Fortunately they're all gone to the dumpster now and we have mini macs instead. OS X is a much better OS than Windows, but Apple hardware isn't anywhere near as good as the MacNuts claim it is.

for those who whine about the Mac's advertising and the computer itself or who down it do that for two reasons...one, they love control-alt-delete....two, because they cannot afford a Mac and know that it is the better machine, so the down it...Macs are the superior computer as an answer to this question for many reasons

-Macs DO NOT get viruses
-Macs dont get spyware, malware, worms, trojans
-Macs do not get popups
-If something goes wrong with a Mac, its usually the users fault
-You can dual boot OS's with no problem
-you can walk down the computer isle of a Wal*Mart and never worry about getting spyware remover, antivirus programs, firewalls, washing programs, or hardrive clean up or restoration software
-A Mac can tell the difference between a program and file...ususally the file is the virus and the program is something you download
-Windows asks if its alright to run a program, it asks "Permission," whereas on a Mac, it asks for "authentication"...this means that you cannot make any changes to anything in the system preferences or any other important aspect without the users password, whether you are in their account or not..Macs are built safe

Its the Macs quality to do everything a PC can do but better and more efficient...Apple isn't about brand name, they are about their machines and service, unlike Windows flaunting about their Windows version of OS X Tiger...Vista..trust me, anyone who wants to argue with me can go right ahead, but Mac's are the superior computer hands down

Not to stand on a soapbox or anything, but look inside any Apple computer, and then look inside a Dell or other PC, and you'll see which one is built better. Apple wins hands down.
