This guy that I breiefly met was telling me how he cheats on his taxes by claiming everything as a business expense (and this is a guy that makes a decent amount of money - therefore, should be paying a decent amount in taxes). He is an arrogant show-off and is in my opinion committing fraud on several people in order to make money. I know his name, and the name of his business. How can I alert the IRS? Also, can I make this claim anonymously? Will the IRS bother to do anything? Thanks!!

If you suspect or know of an individual or company that is not complying with the tax laws, you may report this activity by completing Form 3949-A. You may fill out Form 3949-A online, print it and mail it to:

Internal Revenue Service
Fresno, CA 93888

If you do not wish to use Form 3949-A, you may send a letter to the address above. Please include the following information, if available:

Name and address of the person you are reporting
The taxpayer identification number (social security number for an individual or employer identification number for a business)
A brief description of the alleged violation, including how you became aware of or obtained the information
The years involved
The estimated dollar amount of any unreported income
Your name, address and daytime telephone number
Although you are not required to identify yourself, it is helpful to do so. Your identity can be kept confidential. You may also be entitled to a reward.

Any time you decide to turn someone in for anything, you take a chance of being found out, even people in the witness protection program. It depends on how lazy, or not, an IRS agent is as to whether they will do anything. If you're set on doing this, having his social security number would be helpful.

If you report him and the IRS finds that he is indeed evading his tax obligation, you get a percentage of all monies recovered.

You can report it.
This is the link to the information from the IRS.
They say that you can remain anonymous.
