it is what it is. you can't change the past. of course everyone feels sorry for those that had to be slaves. i don't feel sorry for african americans today though. i consider them equals for the most part, although I still find ignorant assh*les like TRINI beneath everyone. these are poorly educated, bitter people that shouldn't be alive.

Why is everyone concerned about racism 200 yrs ago, what
about the racism that's ongoing today. It's unbelieveable that
people try to pretend that racism isn't a major factor for blacks
and other minorities today, yet just from this website you can
see the ignorance that still perpetuates from some of the
question and answers. I think the problem is that people that
make those remarks are so embedded in racism that they
don't understand what is racism. It's an everyday social
situation to have animosity or hostility against others and they
find it acceptible. Analagous to a pig lying in sh*t. Always
a part of it so really don't see anything wrong. It/s there way
of life.

I don't know if sorry is the word. I wouldn't think the African-American population would want people to feel sorry for them. I wouldn't. Basically I feel we should understand the hardships their ancestors went though. I think there's a higher percentage of black children that have a lesser chance to succeed in life than whites. Which is leftover from history. So we should work together to bridge that gap.

I feel bad for any person who had to spend their lives in slavery. That includes slaves from any part of the world in any time. Blacks did not have a monopoly on slavery. Slavery existed for thousands of years and still does in some parts of the world. However todays natural born Americans whatever their color has never experienced slavery or even known anyone who has so no I dont feel sorry for them. They need to grow up.

No. Slavery has included plenty greater different races then blacks. that's merely that blacks have been the slave race of decision returned interior the day of the U. S.. It exchange into an rather gruesome element of u.s., yet there is not something which would be achieved to un-do historic previous by right this moment's standards. those radical black panthers and their followers would desire to get a grip and circulate on with their lives. They weren't in any respect slaves.

I feel sorry for my ancestors but not so much for my fellow black americans. We have not had to struggle like they did. At least I didn't thank goodness. :-)

feeling "sorry" is what creates the situation we have today.

many whites fear or are uncertain about any feelings of guilt they may have, for whatever reason, for their perceived privilege, the history of racial oppression in the U.S., slavery, broken treaties, etc.

some people deal with this by acknowledging any feelings of being uncomfortable or concerned or unsure about race in a proper way, by being honest, and saying what they feel, or asking questions to better understand "why" and what can be done.

others, however, use anger or apathy to suppress any feelings they have which they fear could expose them as weak. and,

unfortunately, there are also people who will take advantage of someone who is honest and concerned, which further causes people to close up and not address the racial issue they have.

Their ancestors. My heart breaks for the civil rights workers who gave their lives for what black americans have today and what did we get? Spinning rims, baby daddies, and conspicuous consumption. Don't crucify me - Bill Cosby did an EXCELLENT speech on this!

I do feel sorry for those that actually went through what they went through. As for African Americans today, No! I am African American and I thank God that I did not have to endure what we went through in the past, but I look forward to what God has for me and African Americans in the future. We must first seek his kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be given to us as well.
African Americans have to make sure to keep God first and forgive the white race for what happened in the past and move on.
