math is all about terminology. If you undestand the terminology then the rest will begin to make sense.
get some 3x5 cards
write the term that you need to learn on one side
write the meaning on the other
for example
denominator (on one side of the card)
the bottom portion of a fraction (on the opposite side of the card)
spend 10 minutes EVERY day going through your cards
forwards and backwards
Like I said once you understand the terminology, the rest should start to fall into place. though if you need to get caught up in class, a tutor (or a friend that is good at math) might be in order.

don't make it harder than it has to be..... algebra is simply figuring out what value you don't know. that's all there is to it.
for example 6+X=8. you can see that the thing you don't know a value for,X is 2. that's the entire principal to algebra. don't get bogged down in the language.
a big aid would be to form a study group of five or six people who bring different skills to the group. maybe one is good at one thing and someone else is good at something else but together you'll both excel..... you'll want to join a study group when you get to college so now is a good time to get started.

Try this book- Algebra the Easy Way by Douglas Downing. It really does simplify a lot.
And don't worry, I took Algebra I twice because I didn't get it at all. Sometimes it just takes your brain another year to mature.

Hope you are religious..seems math tests make children so. There are many good web sites. My favorite is coolmath.com. It has sites for study skills, and teaches the math in easy terms. You teacher will, also, help if you ask.
