When my children were underage I took them to R rated movies. I don't have that situation now.

No way! Let the kids be kids. They don't need that junk in their heads. I will allow them (13 & 14) to watch PG13 after I've watched it and approved of it, or WITH me, but they know that I have control of the remote and know how to use it. They can see PG without my prior approval. I don't even watch R rated movies.

For a while, my son went to a private christian school.
The school policy was, NO R rated movies, ever.
No exceptions.
(Yes, they told us what to do at home)
The Passion of Christ came out. The school took the children to see this movie, of which is R rated. Even the 7 year old children...
Many cried, many screamed, many had bad dreams afterwards. But the school said; YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS MOVIE to see what Jesus did for you.
No parent complained. The school was always right.
The next weekend, we started taking our son, who was 13, to R rated movies. The school found out, wrote us a letter about their POLICY. We had a meeting - what about Passion of Christ?
The school said yes, it was rated R, R for RELIGION.
He no longer goes to that school.
What a joke. R for RELIGION.

It depends on WHY it is rated R. If it is a good film, with a good message and is just rated R due to language, I will allow it. They hear trash talk from kids half their ages!

Mine are both old enough to go now, but we took them when they were younger.
Swearing, who cares? They're going to hear that anyway. I wouldn't take a child to a movie with nudity and simulated sex. There's plenty of time for that later.

Mostly anything they select to choose to watch......with us we can offer direction and or explanation.....
they are going to see it with their friends anyways ,where if and when needed ...the answers they may receive, may be nothing more than guess work....from their friends...its called parental supervision...
