This is a pretty good site but you'll have to order online and get it shipped.

You can purchase one on line from www.ikea.com. Type in "Futon" under 'Search.'

They come in sofa and arm chair styles. They range from $89.99 to $159.99.

Depending on the style, the size of the arm chair is W: 27 1/2" X D:43 1/4" X H: 31 1/2". The sofa is W: 55 1/8" X D: 43 1/4" X H: 31 1/2".

I haven't slept on a futon but it is poplular among college students for dorm use and those who don't have a lot of space due to it's versality as a bed or for sitting.

Go to www.superpages.com and type in "futon" in the search. There should be a futon shop in your area. They'll range in prace from $150 to several hundred dollars, depending on quality. If you want the standard college dorm room futon, often times Walmart or Target will sell them.

Also try craigslist in your area. www.craigslist.com I got mine for about 70 bucks with an extra futon mattress because a guy was graduating from college and unloading his stuff. The mattress will contribute heavily to the level of comfort, if it's too thin you'll feel the frame through the cushion, but you can always invest in more than one mattress.

G'day skyblue46,

Thank you for your question.

Are you after the Japanese futon or the Western futon which would be more likely to be sold in Las Vegas?

Japanese futons are a mattress sold in Japanese department stores or specialty stores called futon-yas. Japanese futons are flat, about 5 cm (2 in) thick with a fabric exterior stuffed with cotton or synthetic batting. They are often sold in sets which include the futon mattress (shikibuton), a comforter (kakebuton) or blanket (mōfu), a summer blanket resembling a large towel (towelket), and pillow (makura), generally filled with beans, buckwheat chaff or plastic beads. Such sets can be purchased for under 10,000 yen (US$90 as of 2005). You might be able to track one down from the store listed below.

Western futons are only loosely based on the Japanese original, with several major differences. They are often placed on a configurable frame for dual use as a bed and a couch, but are not intended to be stored away during the day. They are usually filled with foam as well as batting, often in several layers, and are almost always much thicker and larger than Japanese futons, resembling a traditional mattress in size. Western-style futons are a cheap alternative to a bed or other furniture, and are often sold in sets that include the mattress and frame; in fact, in the United States, "futon" often refers to the frame, not the mattress. Most Japanese people would not recognize a Western-style "futon" as a futon. I have not slept on a futon but a friend has and told me they were comfortable.

Futon Lifestyle Furniture would be a good place to start. They are in Tropicana Avenue. I have attached a link containing contact details.

Regards

You can purchase a futon at any furniture retailer including Wal-mart. They are not the most comfortable but they do in a pinch. I think the largest is about a full. And if you purchase at a discount retailer they cost about $250.

You can order one online, it's a little hard to find them in stores. I had one once, and slept on it. It was about as comfortable as a bed. Prices can go from $250 to $1000. The good ones are about..$300-$600. :) Good luck finding one!
