I had my computer for about a good three to four years now, and sometimes when i turn my pc on, a statment " cmos battery low " will pop up, and if i skip the settings, it will reset all my applications that i have on my pc.

About a week ago, i opened my pc to clean the dust inside and i bought a new cmos battery. I inserted the cmos battery thinking it was going to work, but it did not; it stated " cmos battery size wrong" when it's the right battery size. So I inserted the original one back into the motherboard, and i still keep getting the same statement " cmos battery size wrong.''

My questions are, could this be a sign of the motherboard going bad? Or could it be that the battery that i purchased was a bad battery?

Try and obtain a new cmos battery from yourcomputer manufacturer. They should be able to get you the same one they put in your computer.

The cmos pretty much remembers all your system settings, and if the only thing wrong with your computer is the fact that all your applications reset, it probably is the cmos. Try a battery from the manufacturer then post again.

Okay First make sure the bottom of your mother board is clean, hair and dust free(as you've been at the top I assume it is) and blow out with compressed air When the cmos error screen comes up hit delete (it goes to bios screen)and load optimized defaults. After you shut down your computer are any lights on on any devices, mouse, key board, usb device etc..Unplug or replace them Many os leave these on for sleep , hibernate modes ,Remote assistance,Printer sharing, Wake on lan ,can also be a drain After you disable all these settings:in bios and operating system, add them one by one(one every three days) until you find one (keep that one disabled) and keep checking the rest in the same way. Some times there are more than one. Dust , hair, device or settings is draining the battery The mb mnfgr didnt anticipate the way new devices and soft ware would be built. Alas,It could be the rom chip , just dont assume it is, Most likely its not.
