I know that there's a certain amount of dollars a school (I'm dealing with elementary schools here) gets from the government per child. Does anyone happen to know what that amount is for Oregon or where I could find out? If you tell me a number, I'll need a reference I can go look at for where you found it.

Thanks!

The latest figures I could find were $7619 is spend on each elementary student for the 2003-2004 school year. This is the amount spent, but it's not exactly the amount the school receives per student per year. My figures come from the US Census bureau and it shows Oregons percentage overall compared with other states.

The second link is from Oregon stands fro children, which had the link to the census bureau publication and lists a significant number of other one.

But to really answer your question I think you need to see if you can't find the school budget for the school in your area. It should show the exact figure that the district receives for each student - and where any other funds for the school come from. Some in my area still comes from timber revenues - or where logging has been curtailed, a stop-gap amount that replaces it. Charter schools in your area may well publish this information - and another place to ask is to ask a local private school. They usually have the figures handy to show how their costs relate to the state funding that public school receive. And check with your local newspaper or a library - I'm sure an older newspaper article in your area has the receipts shown.

To do more research, the phrase you need to search on is "per-pupil expendeture" Oregon.
