You'll need to reset your Ipod. Instuctions vary slightly depending on if you have one of the newer (video) vs. the older ones (non-video).
For the newer ones:
1). Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
2). Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

go to the apple website, go to ipod and itunes, go down the bottom to support (tiney letters), go to user dicussions and frozen ipod. There may be ipod patches or u maybe have to go to an apple office (i did). Good Luck :)

Here's how to reset it..it happened to me too. Did you pull out the lead before it said ok to disconnect? If you did, don't in future, that's how it freezes!

mine also froze and is apparently a common problem. I let my battery completely run out and then when i charged it again it worked fine.
