I was on the "shot" and gained alot of weight. My doctor has switched me to Lo Estrin. I was wondering if anyone has taken it and gained a considerable amount of weight....i can deal with 5 lbs...but i gained 15 with the shot! Also, anyone know a good way to loose weight while on the pill? Any advice is welcome, thank you!

I also switched from Depo Provera to Loestrin about 5 years ago and didn't gain an ounce. I did just switch off of it because I was getting a considerable amount of acne. I switched to Demulen and now it's fine. Just something to keep in mind if you have that side affect.

I found a link with an article discussing weight gain and The Pill.
On that page, there is a discussion of the article by women who have used The Pill, and that might be more helpful to you than the article itself!

I went on the pill a little over a year ago and gained weight in the beginning (Lo Estrin) but lost it after a few months. My pill wasn't strong enough for me and I ended up having to switch pills to a stonger form of Lo Estrin and gained 8 lbs in 2 months. I didn't change my workout regimen and I didn't eat anything that would make me gain 8lbs in 2 months. It absolutely was the pill. My doctor changed my prescription to Ortho -tri cyclen and I'm worried that it's going to make me gain even more weight.

"Despite a common belief that birth control pills cause weight gain, a new comprehensive review of previous studies finds no evidence it is true."

The shot is dangerous! Not only did i gain alot of weight from it (about 20lbs) but it made me moody and depressed all the time. I know alot of ppl who have had problems with it.
All i did to lose the weight was use slim fast for about a month and it worked pretty well. I think i started to lose weight after i stopped getting the shot though so i bet as soon as it's out of your system your weight will go back to normal eventually. Good luck!

oh and i've been on the pill and haven't gained any weight from it if that helps, but every body is different.

I took Loestrin a few years back and had no problem with it. What I noticed with birth control pills is that intially I gained a little weight, maybe 5 lbs, but after my body got used to it (a few months) I lost the weight. My friends say they've had the same experience. So if you get on a pill and gain a little weight, give it some time...your body may just need some time to adjust to the new hormone levels.

I've been taking LoEstrin for a LONG time, and my doctor switched me recently to YAZ, because she said the level of estrogen in the pill (even though it's "low") is what's causing me to retain weight as I get older. If you continue to have weight issues, talk to your doc about changing to something else, maybe even a progestin-only pill.

In the mean time, to answer your question, I never gained weight on the shot; it wasn't till I switched from the shot to the pill that I started to have problems.
Try avoiding those cravings! And if you MUST have that food, eat only enough to sate the urge. Also, do NOT think you can eat something else to satisfy the craving....you'll only over-eat in an attempt to do so. Drink lots of water, cut down on caffeine, and eat lots of fresh fruits & veggies, along with having a good exercise plan (at least 30 minutes per day, 5 days a week).

Not possible. Unless you want to walk/run/jog 1 hour every day. Birth control is tricking your body into being pg, so you are going to gain weight. Some gain more than 15lbs on the shot other gain more on the pill. The hormones are not good, try not taking them and you will loose all that you gained. =o)
Good luck.

If you're on Lo Estrin you should be able to lose weight normally and hopefully quickly. I never gained weight on the pill.

I hate start administration for one reason and one reason purely....I positioned on 14 pounds in a month and a nil.5. I almost exceeded the hell out! I on no account over ate. i replace into approximately 123, perchance slightly extra while i all started taking them. i replace into 17 additionally. I went lower back to the docs and alter into one hundred forty. I freaked out. i wanted to be off them sh*ts a.s.a.p. and from that 3 hundred and sixty 5 days on, I on no account took them lower back. the ethical of my tale is this: I even have on no account heard of somebody gaining weight once you're on start administration. She's mendacity!
